Hey Mon!

Hey Mon! is commonly used by tourists who think that this is the way the "natives" speak. Hey mon! is stale news.

Tourism.... what does this word really mean? Sunm, Sand, Sea, .....Sex? Could there possibly be more?

Tourism in the Caribbean is not limited to the three (or four) "S's". There is more to discover and do than just lying on a beach somewhere geting deep fat fried and drinking drinks with little straw hats in them.

International visitors are becoming very choosy about their destinations, so the responsibility is on us to clean up our act, diversify our product and get with the program!

This articles on this page are intended to stimulate thoughts on ways to improve our Caribbean product while protecting the environment.

Here you will also get suggestions on other types of tourism activity. Heritage tourism, sports, event marketing, hiking, conferences ...... the list goes on.

"The Government of Jamaica (GoJ) believes that in order to achieve sustained economic growth and job creation it necessary to focus on those sectors, which have to generate sustainable investment and foreign exchange earnings."

"The administration is currently pursuing an integrated tourism development programme, geared towards moving the product from the traditional narrow focus on sand, sea and sun."

"Under this programme the promotion of island-wide activity, which offers a diversity of accommodation and novel fulfilling visitor experiences will be of paramount importance to the development of the industry."

Is the government being guided by these policies?  Is the tourism industry doing enough to protect the very same environment that they depend on?

What do you think?
